On a fun-filled family Son Bou holiday, there is no better way to start (or finish!) your evening than by sampling the local cuisine. There is no shortage of restaurants serving up mouth watering local seafood and paellas, but if your children are fussy eaters then there are a number of restaurants serving English food (The Coach and Horses in nearby Saint Climent is among the best), as well as the old favourites of Chinese and Indian. Some bars like the Bou Hai offer a fun selection of alcohol free cocktails for the kids, while Mum and Dad can enjoy their famous Daiquiris or Pina Coladas. Read the rest of this entry »

The Torre d’en Galmes talayotic village certainly differs in style to the sleek Son Bou villas which can be found on the beachfront. But considering that these caves date back to the prehistoric period it’s really of no surprise that the dwellings don’t quite match up to their modern counterparts. Although prehistoric remains can be found all over Menorca, Torre d’en Galmes is believed to be the largest settlement and the gathering point for many ancient ceremonies. The site also contains a hill dotted with fallen taulas and capitals which are bound to fascinate you on your Son Bou holidays. Read the rest of this entry »

The Maze is the perfect place to spend a day whilst on your Son Bou holidays, but when darkness falls then things really begin to get interesting. During the confines of a wooden maze, customers must collect items and get their cards stamped whilst putting up with a couple of surprises en-route. This may sound easy enough during the day but when night falls customers may find themselves being chased by ghosts, witches and zombies. If all this sounds a little too scary then stick to exploring the maze during the daytime when fairies and magicians provide a more pleasant distraction on your Son Bou holidays.

Located 15 minutes outside Son Bou are the Cova d’en Xoroi. These magic natural caves are cut deep into the edge of the coastal cliffs and include a network of walkways and terrace bars. The caves have an ethereal feel to them during the evening, when they really come alive with pounding house music and flamboyant bartenders. However, if you’re not much of a party animal then you may want to visit them during the morning, where you can simply relax with a warm mug of Menorcan coffee and gaze out at the pounding surf below on your Son Bou holidays. Not just a haven for the sun, sea and sand enthusiasts, Son Bou is also a major bird watching area for those looking to add a nature based activity to their holiday. Its central south coastal location offers a variety of habitats, and although a less fashionable activity for a Son Bou holiday, bird watching is an ideal activity here because of the local nature reserve. Ornithology enthusiasts flock to this protected conservation area (pun intended!) which is a haven for many types of aquatic and migratory birds – some of them rare. Read the rest of this entry »

Menorca is the least visited, and probably the most authentic of all the Balearic Islands. A Son Bou holiday is the perfect opportunity to learn about Menorca’s rich culture and history, and just minutes away from the bustle of the beachside resorts, you can find yourself walking under stone archways that were once home to prehistoric man. The popular resort of Son Bou in Menorca has all the ingredients for a relaxing holiday of sun, sea and the essential holiday pastimes – eating and drinking! The undisputed best way to begin a relaxing evening on your Son Bou holiday is by sipping sundowners on the beach. As the evening sun sets slowly over the ocean, any one of the three bars on the beach can serve you up a delicious pre-dinner aperitif. If cocktails are what you’re looking for, head for Bou Hai. As the name suggests, the bar specialises in Hawaiian tiki concoctions, and whilst the Pina Coladas are great, it is the fresh fruit daiquiris which are the bar’s specialty. There are also a few cleverly adapted virgin concoctions, so you can even bring the children – with the cute roller skating waitresses an added treat! Read the rest of this entry »
