Celebrating in Menorca, Son Bou’s World Cup Party

Spain’s first World Cup win on Sunday wasn’t just celebrated on the Spanish mainland, but the festivities also extended to all of the Balearic Islands. Honking car horns could be heard throughout the island of Menorca, Son Bou celebrated with red and yellow fireworks and millions in Menorca waved Spanish flags in a show of national pride.

The celebrations in Menorca might not have been as large as those on the mainland, where millions of people lined the streets of Madrid to give the team a hero’s welcome, but the island celebrated in its own, slightly more reserved, way.

Son Bou Talayotic Village

The Torre d’en Galmes talayotic village certainly differs in style to the sleek Son Bou villas which can be found on the beachfront. But considering that these caves date back to the prehistoric period it’s really of no surprise that the dwellings don’t quite match up to their modern counterparts. Located 15 minutes outside Son Bou are the Cova d’en Xoroi. These magic natural caves are cut deep into the edge of the coastal cliffs and include a network of walkways and terrace bars.
